Position

KY called me around noon to share me his good news. He got the position as PR Trainee for Fleishman-Hillard Singapore. He will train with the company for 6 months and if he's good enough, he will be offered permanent PR position in the third month. I'm sure he will do well, congratulations buddy!

He went for the interview before Finding Nemo last week and wasn't confident of getting it. But they just gave him a call just now saying that he got the job even though the interview process is not over. I applied for the position too, but sent in my resume much much later than him, so I don't think I will get any call for an interview with them, even though there is still a chance they might call me down for an interview. But considering my luck, I really doubt that's gonna happen...

But I'm really happy that he got the position. Though I feel demoralised that I myself still havn't gotten a job, but I should be happy for my buddy. I am happy for him of course, at least there's one less unemployed miserable Singaporean out there...and due to the boost of relief he just got, he helped me touch up my resumes that I'm sending to a couple companies. Who knows? It might just help. I just hope that after his turn of good luck, mine will be coming soon. And hopefully all my friends who are also jobless will have their lucks changed soon.

First personal photo of the week: I seldom get to take pictures with just Lauren and Susan. So this is a rather rare photo for me, sandwiched between the both of these lovely ladies. Taken on New Year's Day 2002, we were out Hari Raya visiting, with Mona, Sha, Jason, Joanne Tan, May Theng, Khairul (who were all not in the photo, obviously). This is taken in front of Mona's flat. Actually speaking of sharing photos on blogs, looks like some of my Moonbabes have caught my bug, very contagious I tell ya.

From left, Susan, me and Lauren.

Somehow I look quite tall in this picture (although I think it's because Susan and Lauren ARE short, haha). And that white shirt is my favourite top by the way. Lauren did look cool and composed, and Susan as usual with her fair complexion, but girl, why that weird expression on your face?

Ah, now I remember, most probably they couldn't wait to start sprinting for our Amazing Race leg to Sha's house (yar right, them? Who am I kidding, lol).

Badminton

Had quite a good workout today.

Well not a workout per se, but it was a fun badminton game with KY in the afternoon. Played for around two hours with him at the CC near his house. I borrowed badminton rackets and shuttlecocks from my brother-in-law for the whole of this week, so decided to take this opportunity to play badminton.

We were the only people at the indoor court, which is something like the normal secondary school assembly hall with fans and lights. We were there from 3 to 5 but the sucky thing was the court was not air-conditioned, so it was quite hot and we got all sweaty and sticky after that.

The last time I played badminton was with my colleagues in SIW during NS, and that was also not my own racket, so it felt good doing the overhead smashes and making KY run around trying to catch the shuttlecock. Well I did my own fair share of running too. I have a weakness in this game and hinted KY to act on it, and although he tried to trick me and almost caught me, I still won.

KY doesn't really play badminton much and he only played it once in his life (according to him). But he's quite a decent player. Still, I thrashed and won him in all the six matches we competed. We did the proper scoring system up till 15 points, proper service and rules and everything. He almost beat me during our last match, but I still won haha. We are both kinda competitive when we play against each other in sports or games, so it felt good thrashing him. And he was a little frustrated cuz he kept losing. But seriously I'm still an amateurlah. KY - 0, me - 6.

At least I get to thrash him in badminton, cuz most of the time I lose to him in table tennis. And I realise today that I prefer and am better at sports that uses a racket, such as tennis, badminton, and table tennis at times. So the next sport I wanna try playing is squash. Meanwhile KY is better at playing sports with balls, such as soccer. Well, that's one sport that I used to play, but I lost interest cuz I suck at it.

After the badminton session, went up to his house to shower and change my clothes cuz the damn CC has no shower facilities. And I stayed there for awhile playing the PC Scrabble. The game is quite fun actually. But this time I lost three times to KY. Oh well.

This Friday, I'm gonna play badminton again with KY. and this time around, Jason will be joining us. Haha, Jason said he wants to challenge me and thrash me. Okay fine, whatever, see who will be the bigger loser lah. But we're gonna be playing at Bukit Gombak Sports Complex courts, where it's enclosed and air-conditioned, so it will be cooler.

Reached home in time to catch the second True Courage episode, this time about Nurse Hamidah who passed away due to SARS. That was a really really sad episode. Nurse Hamidah was a strong woman and a hero. The healthcare workers and nurses are the true heroes of Singapore. We are grateful for everything that you did, putting your life on line to prevent SARS in Singapore. We're all behind you guys.

Run

I did something unusual this morning.

Woke up earlier than usual at 6.45am, showered and went for a run. I don't even know how many kilometres I ran though. I also volunteered to buy newspapers and breakfast for my parents. Yesterday my father requested me to, once in awhile, help him buy breakfast and newspapers in the morning. So as an act of filial piety, I took it upon myself to do just that.

Stuffed and bloated myself too much yesterday night at the Father's Day dinner, so the run was an effective way of getting rid of the calories and fats that might have accumulated on my body and stomach after that dinner. But it's been 8 months since I stopped running, so I guess I still need to warm up and adjust my physical condition. And I always prefer morning runs to evening runs. The oxygen and air is clearer in the morning and the sun is not that bright as compared to evening ones. Plus I'm not intending to get tanned.

After the run, my legs and knees were aching like fuck, but it felt good. Brought me back to my SIW days, when 5km runs are chicken feet for me. But for now, I have to try harder to gain my stamina and get used to the distance and the fitness pressure. Been sitting on my ass all this while, it's time for some cardiovascular exercises.

Ran around the neighbourhood. After my legs were almost giving way, went to the nearby Bukit Gombak Sports Complex to enquire on badminton court rates, cooled down a bit and proceeded to buy nasi lemak and newspapers. Had to check the badminton court rates cuz I'm playing badminton with KY tomorrow.

I hope to go for morning runs every alternate day, at least until I get a job. I'm getting tired and sick of waking up near noon everyday. Very unhealthy routine, and usually half the day would be gone for me. So this is my effort in changing my daily morning routine. But I'm happy to break it once a job comes along. Pray for me.

Finally finished watching the whole of Season 1 for Six Feet Under, uncensored, via Kazaa. All 13 episodes. So now, I'm moving on to Season 2. But it sucks cuz my harddisk is too small, only 4 gigabytes. So, after every download and viewing, I can't keep the episodes, I have to delete them.

Tonight's Friends episode was boring, made up of mostly flashbacks of old episodes revolving around Monica and Chandler. But finally Chandler has quit his job (and what is he working as again?) and doesn't need to be at Tulsa.

I have decided to forget about following Alias. The show is alright, but even though how much I tried, I can't focus my attention on the show and has lost interest. Oh well, better still, I can save money on video tapes.

Meanwhile I'm still a fan of Smallville, and this new season has seen great developments in everyone's characters. I think the writers will forever keep Lana and Clark away from each other, cuz maybe they're worried if they get together, the ratings would go down. But I'm waiting for that episode where Clark starts flying through a cave. When will that be?

I like this poster, very green, Smallville, starring Tom Welling, Kristin Kreuk and Michael Rausenbaum. Next 3 images are courtesy of DevotedtoSmallville.com.

Another picture of them taken from Rolling Stone mag.

While this is a photo of the entire cast of Smallville for Season 2.

Big Daddy

My whole big extended family celebrated our Father's Day just now, albeit one week earlier.

Let me tally how many of us were there. Okay there were 24 of us - my parents, my 5 siblings, my direct 12 nephews & nieces, my sister-in-law & her mother, my two brother-in-laws and me. Gosh, what a riot it was. In Malay, it's called kecoh. Well, this is expected of my family, whenever we have such gatherings and when every single one of us attends it, everyone is so very kecoh.

The 24 of us had dinner at Al-Azhar, one of the 24-hr open-air restaurants at Bukit Timah, opposite Beautyworld. I think I might have been there before with my friends, but I wouldn't have remembered the restaurant's name. My 3rd sister and her husband (the organisers and the 'treaters' of this shindig) decided to have it one week earlier to avoid the crowd this coming Sunday.

It was really really fun. A lot of dishes were ordered, from fish, to chicken, to prawn, to cuttlefish, to prata tissue and lots of other stuff. I'm so freaking full and bloated now. Havn't had such a big feast for awhile. On top of that, we also had a Father's Day cake, but strangely with a picture of a car on it. I was really stuffing myself a lot. Well, it's a free meal, so I wouldn't miss it for the world.

But what's more touching was at the end of the dinner, my father gave a short speech, thanking us and giving his well-wishes to all of us. He was visibly touched and happy for the occasion. His ecstatic and satisfied expression endeared me to him. I don't say this often, even not to his face, but what the heck, I love you, Pak.

I wonder how I would feel when I get to be a father myself. Insya-Allah. How it would feel to have my first child touch my fingers after my future wife has given birth to him/her? And would I ever reach my father's current stage, father of 6, grandfather of 12? I'm not sure whether I can totally see myself as a father.

However, I certainly would want to have children, and I hope I can be an awesome father.
